Just a little reminder!

Colvin Run will be hosting it's First Satuday Social Ballroom dance this Saturday.

8-9pm Dance Lesson with Fred Long and Patricia Stranahan. Samba $5.00

9-11:30 Dance to the music of Helmut Licht and Andre. As you probably already know, Helmut and Andre are one of the top ballroom dance music groups in the area. They understand what dancers like and are glad to take your requests.

The $15.00 admission includes lite fare (snacks) and soft drinks.

Tango Mercurio's Community Tango Orchestra under the musical direction of Brett Lemley will play about 30 to 45 minutes of danceable tango music starting around 10:30 PM. To support the Community Tango Orchestra, $3.00 from each admission fee will be donated to Tango Mercurio.

 As the saying goes, "March comes in like a lion and goes out like a lamb." Come to Colvin Run's "FIRST SATURDAY" social ballroom dance and we will bring in March like a lion with the help of Mike Surratt and the ECB. If you have ever heard Mike Surratt, you know he is a great entertainer and he keeps the mood lively with his fantastic style of ballroom dance music. But before Mike Surratt starts to play, we will have Fred and Patricia teaching a few cha cha steps that will make that March Lion seem tame. So get your dance shoes ready and join us Saturday night for some real dancing fun.

Workshop	INTENSIVE ADVANCED LABORATORIES with Alejandra Mantiñan & Leandro Palou
When	FRIDAY, SATURDAY, and SUNDAY January 25-27

Description	"Laboratories" are workshops where the teachers work on the material brought in by the students, of interest for all, based on their levels and style of dancing. Instead of teaching concepts or sequences that the students might never use in their social dancing, the teachers work on technical aspects or combinations of tango movements/steps that the students are interested in.Teachers have an extensive background on this type of teaching that is useful for more advanced dancers, and make sure that the material is varied, of interest to all, and applicable to the level of the dancers attending the workshop. Even with mixed levels, everyone gets to work on their own issues.
Format	Friday 25th, Saturday 26th and Sunday 27th of January. 2 hours of technique for leaders and followers (Friday) followed by 6 laboratories (Sat and Sun) of 1 hour 15 min each (Sat and Sun). Max: 50 dancers. No need to be in couple, but it is recommended (and there is a price incentive to do so) to register as a couple.
Level	Only Advanced Intermediate/Advanced students if registering alone. If you register as a couple, any level is welcome. You will work with your partner, at your level and will definelty learn a lot from these workshops!!
Fees	Entire seminar (9 1/2 hours): $530 for couples ($28/h per person); $285 individuals ($30/h) . Friday and either Saturday OR Sunday (5.75 hr): $400 ($35/h per person) for couples; $215 individuals ($37/h) Friday only (2 hours): $65/person. No couple discount.
Students	10% discount to full-time students and senior citizens. Please bring an ID.

ABOUT THE ARTISTS

Alejandra Mantiñan has been teaching and performing argentine tango in festivals, stages and venues all around the world for 3 decades, and is one of most famous tango ambassadors in the world. With a background in physical therapy and martial arts, Alejandra’s knowledge of the human body and its motor function makes her a “doctor of technique”, able to diagnosed and fix any dancer’s technical issues that are interfering with his/her dancing.
She started dancing at 8 years in the "National School of Dance" graduating after 10 years as a National Dance Teacher. At age 17 she joins the ballet of Contemporary Dance Soledad Fernandez, and at the Teatro San Martín . In that same year she won the contest for Contemporary Dance Choreography at the Teatro San Martín sponsored by Coca Cola in the show called "Africa is bleeding."
In 1988, while pursuing her career as a dancer, she registered at the University of Medicine (UBA) and graduated after 4 years as a physical therapist.
Alejandra Mantiñan tango career took off in the early 90’s. Together with Gustavo Russo, her partner for 14 years, she toured 340 cities worldwide and the most famous theaters such as Teatro Sistina - Rome, Broadway Theatre - Broadway, Teatro Colon – Argentina, Cremblin Theatre - Moscow, St. Petersburg Opera and Theater in Munich, Berlin Philharmonic, Cologne, and 11 other cities in Germany. They were the star couple in Paris at the Theatre Champs Elisee, and were also featured dancers in the show "Tango Passion" together with the Sexteto Mayor. She danced in the casts of the masters Mariano Mores, Osvaldo Pugliese, Horacio Salgan, José Basso, as well as in the largest and most prestigious tango venues in Buenos Aires.
In 1999 she stated and choreographed the company "Tango Seduction" which toured several cities in the World. In 2002 Alejandra started a new company, "Tango Fever" and partnered with Gabriel Misse, with whom she toured the world participating in the largest festivals such as Festival of Madrid, Sitges, Berlin, Hamburg, Tokyo, Color Tango in Paris, Genoa, Naples and Rome, Munich and Lisbon, etc.
Presently Alejandra is the director of two Tango Schools in Italy, she continues to teach and perform all over the world.

Leandro Palou started to dance tango as a late teenager and has been dancing argentine tango for 2 decades. In 1995 he started his career as a professional dancer, and since then has toured the world dancing in numerous shows and some of the most important tango festivals in Europe, Asia and America. Former partner of the amazing Andrea Misse, they created a company called Tango Danza in the late ’90s, together with Andrea’s brother, Gabriel Misse. Their shows earned them rave reviews in the USA and Europe. Leandro and Andrea came to live in London in 2001. In those days, the UK tango scene was comparatively small since tango fever hit UK a decade later than it hit the rest of Europe. Leandro and Andrea’s regular classes at the factory gym and dance center in Hornsey road revolutionized the dance in London, and the couple also had a big impact in Europe and wherever else they happened to tour, giving demonstrations that inspired rapturous applause. In 2006 he joined the prestigious Tango company ‘Tango Por Dos'. In the first year with that company, they toured Switzerland, Italy, United Kingdom and Israel. Leandro is at present the director and teacher of his own tango school, Tango Soul, and continues to teach and perform in festivals all over the world.
In mid-2012, Alejandra and Leandro became partners. This magical couple has already been mesmerizing the European audiences. We have very fortunate to have them in their first USA tour as a couple!

January 5, 2013 Dear Colvin Run Friend:

We hope you joined us on New Years Eve for our "Ring the Bell" celebration dance. After a night of dancing to music from years gone by, at midnight we sang Auld Lang Syne and listened while the schoolhouse bell solemnly pealed into the silent night. Beautiful! And we're still recovering from that fun New Years Eve, so there's no dance tonight at Colvin Run. We hope to see you for Social Ballroom next month on Saturday, February 2.
